Sri TSR (Thittai Srinivasan Rajagopalan)
Sri Thittai Srinivasan Rajagopalan was born on 28th April 1894, in a village called Thittai, Some 20 kilo meters from Kumbakonam to Sri Srinivasa Raghava Iyengar, Land lords for generations, and intensive agriculturists. At a tender young age Sri TSR, wanted to diverse from agriculture and venture into the field of manufacturing and business and thus started this business venture in the year 1909 at Kumbakonam, an industrially advanced town then!
He pioneered and ventured the manufacture of Pooja Items, Sandhanam (Sandal), Panner (Rosewater), Incense Sticks (bathy), and beetal flakes perfumed (supari).
Invention of Logo & Trademark
He invented novelty with quality uncompromised on all his manufactures, under the Trade mark “Alilai Krishnan”. (Child Lord Krishna floating on banyan leaf in the cosmic ocean. It is also believed that Lord Buddha got enlightened under the Banyan Tree.) He manufactured high quality with everlasting fragrance for all these Pooja items, under brand name “Gokul”, which the generation down under, still maintaining and sustaining.
Sri TSR was also a man with highest social responsibility was the chairman for the Kumbakonam Municipality tenure, in between 1958-61 and was instrumental for the modern underground drainage system in the main areas of the municipality.
He was also very spiritual and had served the god with untiring “sevai” by being the Trustees for the Sri Sarangapani Temple and Sri Chakarapani Temple.
He was also a philanthropist wherein he dreamt of high class education and headed the Board of Banadurai High School. He had immense pleasure in serving the institution as a correspondent and had brought laurels and fame to that institution during his tenure.
The people of Kumbakonam has honored him as a token of love and affection has named a big busy merchandize area as “TSR Big Street” some 50 years ago and ever loving him and remembering him for all his pleasant and pleasing manners with impeccable administrative qualities.
Sri T.R. Raghavan
The firm has been successfully managed by Sri.T.R.Raghavan , affectionately called as Kumar TSR’s second progeny and he had by extensive Travelling had wide spread the market and our products popularity with acumen.
He had never compromised on the quality and the assurance which had been prevailing during TSR’s tenure, the customer’s satisfaction was a prime motive behind and venture. He was a honey tongued person and so eloquent.
Sri.TR.Raghavan also patronized all the social activities commenced by Sri.T.S.R during his life time and maintained the high valued relationship with the society by his simplicity and explicit manners. His rapport and his understanding with the people associated with him were wonderful and marvelous.
He was a very pious man and a very great advocator of the “Gayathri Mantra”. He possessed impeccable honesty and was a very soothing personality, with a fair amount of conviction.
He was the promoter for the present Company, T.S.R & Co., Kumbakonam, and instrumental for modern management. He had very clear forethought and strategy to conduct the business enterprise with due optimism, with Necessary caution, Aggressive and abrasive business acumen, with a clear perspective. He was admired and respected for his modesty and immaculate adherence of ethics in business as well as in personal living. His, Critical and Crisis Management qualities were extraordinary, which affirmed and established him as a true Leader of all the time.
Sri T.R. Kannan
Sri.TR.Kannan, the first-born of Sri TSR, a PRODIGY and a pioneer in Aromatic chemicals and engineering, commissioned T.S.R & Co., Madras in the year 1960, to facilitate the manufacture of “Gokul Santol”, being a cosmetic product to have a better reach, wider market base with patrons utilizing the modern Technology in the sphere of manufacture, up-keep and maintenance in quality to make it a world class product.
His vision has made the product a household brand name all across India and Globally. In the Year 1956 Gokul Santol – Sandalised luxurary Talc product was launched.
TSR Legacy
The TSR Legacy is being continued by his Grandsons and Great grandsons, judiciously upkeeping Modern Trends in both Manufacture and marketing without compromise on quality and tradition.
